Back to main newsUrgent appeal for medical aid to Gaza
Wed 31 Dec 2008
Author: S GallowayIn a statement just released, Pauline McNeill MSP and Denis Rutovitz of Edinburgh Direct Aid explain that prior to the recent attacks the hospitals could not cope with even basic health care treatments and now they are simply overwhelmed in attempting to care for the thousands more people wounded in the most deadly assaults ever perpetrated on the Palestinian population.
A previous convoy in November 2008 successfully delivered supplies to Gaza by boat. The convoy initiative has widespread support from all sectors of Scottish life including MPs and MSP's. In conjunction with the "Free Gaza Movement", Edinburgh Direct Aid intend to take the aid by this boat again in late January or February 2009. The only route in to Gaza is by sea and Edinburgh Direct Aid are now working with the European Campaign to end the Sieges on Gaza and the Free Gaza Movement to take goods by boat from Cyprus when it is safe to do so.
Medicine and funds to buy medical equipment are being collected. Equipment has been donated by Greater Glasgow Health Board and pharmacies around Scotland have made donations.
Offers of help or donations are welcome by contacting: Pauline McNeill on 07968 72 77 99 or Sid Khan on 'saddaqatkhan@yahoo.co.uk' or Denis Rutovitz on 01315521545 Gaza@EdinburghDirectAid.Org
